WHAT SECONDARY EDUCATION COURSES DO WE OFFER?

Available at postgraduate level, all of our courses provide you with qualified teacher status, allowing you to apply for teaching jobs ahead of and upon graduation.

We offer courses in several subjects, including the shortage subjects of Maths, Science and Modern Foreign Languages.

Our secondary education courses run at our Lancaster campus (except PE, which runs in Kendal), with placement opportunities available at many schools across the UK.

We're also one of the largest providers of School Direct in England, with a wide range of partner schools, including schools in Carlisle, Cumbria and Lancashire.

WHY STUDY SECONDARY EDUCATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF CUMBRIA?

By choosing to study a secondary education course at the University of Cumbria, you will be studying at an institution built on over 100 years of teacher training through our founding institutions Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside and St Martin’s College in Lancaster.

96% of our graduates are in work or further study within 15 months of graduating (HESA Graduate Outcome Survey 2020).

As a student on one of our secondary programmes you'll be part of one of the largest teacher training institutions in the UK - we currently work with over 1000 primary and secondary schools across the UK.

You will have access to a wide range of support including an extensive library of learning resources, careers and employability advice and guidance, and health and wellbeing support.

As a student on one of our PGCE courses, you could also be eligible to receive funding from the Department for Education (DfE).

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

Charlotte Hannah

PGCE Secondary Mathematics graduate 2015

"I enjoyed meeting new people and learning new things around the subject that I chose. I also enjoyed speaking to people that were doing other subjects, in order to gain more cross-curricular experience.

I'm now a maths teacher and love having my own individual classes and seeing my students progress throughout the year."
