Discover: Policing in London

The London Metropolitan Police is the largest police force in the UK with over 44,000 members of staff; but what do they all do and what careers are available?  There are multiple policing organisations outside of the Metropolitan Police Service, but what part do they play in securing London and the UK?

Discover the role of specialist agencies such as MI5, MI6, the National Crime Agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the British Transport Police and more. Discover what happens inside New Scotland Yard and how the Counter-Terrorism Police is formed.

We've invited special guest Dan Bair, Outreach Lead at the Metropolitan Police Service, to discuss the role of the Metropolitan Police Force and a breakdown of careers available.

You’ll hear from David Heanue, our Policing Lecturer at the University of Cumbria in London. David has over 25 years of policing experience working in roles within the British Transport Police, the Crime Investigation Department, and a Public Order Unit. He has held multiple roles from a Police Constable to a sergeant and now to an experienced policing lecturer.  He’ll cover specialist policing agencies and how they serve and protect London and the UK.  He’ll share stories of his career, knowledge and advice for those who are interested in exploring policing.
